Meet the Owner

Hi! I’m Melissa Fling. I’m a Colorado native, an audiologist and the owner of Custom Ear Solutions. I have a doctorate in clinical audiology (AuD), which is comparable to a doctorate in clinical optometry (OD).

I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Audiology and Speech-Language Science and a minor in Spanish and then from Central Michigan University in 2015 with a Doctor of Clinical Audiology (Au.D.) degree.

After graduation, I returned home to Colorado to begin my career as an audiologist. After five years of experience as an employee, I was compelled to start my own business in 2020. I began in 2022 when I was presented with an opportunity to work with pilots, and it’s been a whirlwind of learning ever since! I’m very passionate about education and hearing protection, and I look forward to learning from and helping those with similar interests.

The Inspiration

Custom Ear Solutions was born not only out of my desire to be my own boss but also from the realization that there remains a huge lack of awareness surrounding hearing protection and custom-fitted options. I’m passionate about prevention, as loud sound-induced hearing loss and tinnitus are still among the top health conditions in this country, and they are completely preventable in most cases. Not only has loud sound-induced hearing loss affected adults for decades, but with the advent of gaming headphones and Bluetooth capable earbuds, it is beginning to affect our children as well. As an audiologist, I’ve seen firsthand how hearing loss and tinnitus can challenge communication, social connections, mental health and livelihood. In this endeavor, I have become dedicated to educating and helping to preserve your hearing health, so that you can continue to enjoy your life and your activities.
